Volunteer

IT Consultant

2012-Mar 2017
Description of Responsibilities:

Supported a church Windows-based IT environment, with Small Business Server 2008 and several Windows 7 machines with Microsoft Office suite, and a client-server based CMS (Shelby systems) installed. Implemented a number of cost-saving measures, including using TechSoup to fund purchases of Office365 upgrade, takeover and replacement of website, and conducted a full vendor/software selection process to replace Shelby CMS. Investigated a number of vendors for possible Shelby replacement. After selecting Touchpoint, sought and received approval from the church finance committee and vestry. Implemented the migration of contribution data from Shelby Systems CMS to TouchPoint, using their data transfer process. Setup new accounting structures and organization structures within TouchPoint. Documented new procedures for church volunteers and employees. For website replacement, existing vendor provided a templated format that was too rigid for client’s need, and cost was excessive for maintenance. Designed and built new website on wix.com platform for ease of use for client’s ongoing maintenance needs. Continued ongoing weekly maintenance of content, continuing to add features such as a Google calendar of events.

Achievements

Migrated environment from Office 2010 to web-based Office 365, Shelby CMS to a combination of Quickbooks and Touchpoint, and website from 3rd party hosting to self-hosting. Results: Captured cost savings of 50% for CMS replacement, and 600% for website replacement, and enabled cloud access to mail, office documents and contribution/financial data. Enhanced feature set for both website and contribution CMS.
